A strong foundation in literacy is like the breath of knowledge. We take in information with our ability to read and listen. We release our wisdom and unique self-expression with our ability to write and speak. Our youngest students have an intentional block of time devoted to explicit literacy instruction. As students grow older, reading and writing are integrated within unit studies. From read-alouds of rich, authentic literature to explicit mini-lessons, we provide a balanced approach incorporating best and current practices while individualizing instruction. The goal is for our students to develop a joy of reading and writing, feeling confident they can access the resources they need to further their learning.
